About

About Vicky & The Studio

I'm Vicky, an award-winning screen printer and textile artist with 30 years of professional experience. I've been making prints since 1997, starting with protest banners for social justice marches and evolving into research, print exhibitions, collaborations and large-scale public art projects.

I work from my fully equipped studio in Linthwaite, Huddersfield, a professional screen printing space where I create my own work, funded projects and teach others to do the same.

My Practice

I have an MA in Fashion & Textile Design and have received funding from Arts Council England, the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust, the British Textile Biennial, the Worshipful Company of Dyers, and The Textile Society. My current work includes Story Veils, an Arts Council lottery-funded project creating space for women to thrive creatively after domestic abuse through walking, drawing, and printmaking in the Pennines.

I've worked as Senior Print Technician at university, Studio Manager for public artist Wolfgang Buttress and currently provide Masterclasses for the National Saturday Club. I also volunteer as a mentor for Arts Emergency, supporting working-class students into creative careers. I've taught across print workshops, universities, galleries and art spaces always with the same approach: attention to detail, full explanations, industry techniques, offering space and time to develop your own creative voice.

Why I Teach Workshops

I have a commercial element to my practice and a large studio space to teach in. The commercial income supports my projects with vulnerable and working class women. I always limit my workshops to 4 students because I believe in making space for creatives to actually learn, have the space to not feel cramped as you print. You'll get individual attention on your specific project, troubleshooting mistakes and I'll share tips and skills from 30+ years of professional practice.

Whether you're a complete beginner or looking to refine your skills, you'll leave with work you're proud of and the confidence to keep printing.

I'm a research member of ArtLab Contemporary Printmaking in Preston and have in the past been their Artist in Residence through the AA2A offer. It's free to apply, ask me about it!

What else?

I run and mountain bike on the Pennines, I own a pack of Lurchers and I'm Yorkshire born and bred. I have many connections in the UK print and textiles world, so if you come on a course you'll find out about further opportunities (some are already linked as great places to start expanding creatively).
My studio is in a historic woollen mill with 20 steps and unfortunately it's not wheelchair accessible (and not fully aligned with my inclusive social justice practice). I'm working to resolve this in future premises.
