FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

I've never screen printed before, is the beginner workshop right for me?

Yes! The 'Introduction to Screen Printing' workshop assumes no previous experience, even if you are refreshing your skills. You'll learn everything from preparing screens to pulling your first prints to naming your tools. You will need a sense of curiosity, an interest in design and colour, and you won't mind getting waterbased inks on your hands.

What's the difference between beginner and intermediate workshops?

Beginner (Introduction to Screen Printing)
You'll learn the complete process in a work-flow that involves an introduction to the screen itself, a little bit of history and why screen print, coating screens with photo emulsion, colour mixing and printing a one-colour edition. Perfect if you've never printed before or it's been years.

Intermediate (Next Level Screen Printing) You'll work with screen registration and layering techniques in multiple colours. You should have completed a beginner workshop or have basic screen printing experience already.

What should I bring?

Just yourself and ideas! All materials, equipment, and paper are included. You might want to bring:

  • A simple design or image or two on a USB stick (A4 size, black and white, 300dpi)
  • A notebook if you like taking notes
  • Old clothes or an apron (although aprons are provided)
  • A phone or camera if you want to document your progress

Can I take photos during the workshop?

You are encouraged to document your process, take photos of techniques, video the squeegee pull and photograph prints in progress. Please be mindful of other students' privacy. These can be shared on the @screen_print_adventures bespoke Instagram account (with your permission).

Do I need to bring my own screens or equipment?

No – everything is provided. You'll use professional studio equipment throughout the day. PPE is provided.

Do I need to bring a folder to take prints home?
If you have an A3 folder please bring it. You can also make a folder from two pieces of A3 card and some tape.

How do you create eco and sustainable prints?

All printing inks are water-based and paper stock is recycled and/or from sustainable sources.

What if I make mistakes during the workshop?

Mistakes are part of learning! I make mistakes, I can show you some real clangers. We'll have practice screens and materials for testing. I'd rather you experiment and make interesting 'mistakes' than play it safe. Some of the best prints come from happy accidents.

What will I take home?

You'll leave with 6-10 finished prints (or more) and an clear understanding of the complete process and confidence to continue, if you wish to. You'll receive a follow-up email that further supports you with any questions or issues after the workshop.

What's included in the price?

Full day of teaching, all materials and equipment, vegetarian lunch, tea/coffee throughout, free parking in a carpark and email support afterwards direct from Vicky.

Half day private sessions: 10am – 1pm.

Can I book a private 1:1 session?

How physically fit do I need to be to screen print?

Screen printing involves standing for periods of time and applying pressure through your arms and hands. You can't really print while sitting down. Wear supportive shoes (trainers or boots, not sandals). You'll need to be able to reach your arms forward and apply steady pressure with a squeegee. I'll give you tips about core strength and good positioning for safe, comfortable printing. If you have concerns about stamina or mobility, please contact me before booking, we can discuss adjustments.

What if I need to cancel?

I'm a one-person business with a technician and studio admin support, so cancellations impact my income and planning. My cancellation policy is: More than 30 days before workshop: Full refund
14-30 days before workshop: 50% refund
Less than 14 days before workshop: No refund

The date you book is included are Day 1.
One free transfer per booking (subject to availability) – contact me if you need to move workshop dates.

The full policy is linked at bottom of page, please have a read.

Will I get ongoing support after the workshop?

You will. I send a follow-up email with resources, suppliers, and I'm happy to answer questions as you develop your practice. You'll also get priority booking for future workshops.

I have another question – how do I contact you?

Please use the Contact Form or email me. I aim to get back to you within 48 hours.

Can I give you an emergency contact number?

I will ask you for this pre-visit. As a self-employed artist and a service-provider in the public sector, I am first aid trained and fully insured for Public Liability. For your safety I always ask for another phone number.

Will you share my personal information?

No, never ever!

Can I ask questions during the workshop?

Please ask ALL the questions you have as they arise. I pride myself on having the answers for you, but if I don't I will research on your behalf and email you. Also, if you leave and don't understand any part of the screen printing process, I haven't done my job properly.

What is the greatest screen printing question anyone has ever asked you?

Brace yourself....

Can I screen print onto the surface of water? I don't think so. (Same conversation...) Can I screen print onto moving water? No, not really. So I can't print onto the sea? No!

See you soon.
